Flying Within Costa Rica
Internal Scheduled Flights with NatureAir and Sansa
The map below is provided by NatureAir showing their routes. The routes for Sansa are fewer, and Sansa does not go to any destination not covered by NatureAir. Many flights and routes are dropped during low season. All flights are completed between sunrise and sunset as no airstrips (except San Jose and Liberia international airports) have runway lights or radar or control towers. The Caribbean destinations operate only early in the morning (because of cloud formation). Remote destinations like Tortuguero, Drake Bay, and Bocas del Toro are tied to tour operator schedules for all-inclusive tour packages. Pacific destinations depart as late as 3:30 PM, arriving in San Jose before sunset. Remember Costa Rica has a 12 hour day (plus/minus 35 minutes) year round. Sunrise is 5:00 to 6:15 and sunset 5:00 to 6:15.
Helicopter Services
Five companies offer private helicopter service for up to seven passengers. Helicopter service based in Liberia airport is also available as a medical taxi. Prices are quoted on demand.
Hot Air Ballooning
Definitrely our favorite way to fly! We brought ballooning to Costa Rica (actually, all of Central America) and still fly in the Arenal area, but no longer in Turrialba. So if your idea of flying is floating, and your idea of destination is someplace unexpected, try our balloon.
Paragliding
Only 10 minutes from Volare is one of two sites in Costa Rica where you can catch a tandem paragliding flight. Check out our Hard Core Adventures for more details.
